One of my Fave Tops of ALL Time!

One of my Fave Tops of ALL Time!

So if you've been following along with me in the past, you will know that I own my own boutique - Southern Jewlz. A lifestyle boutique that totally encourages women to be beautiful from the inside out, complimentary to others, confident, strong, courageous, goal-oriented, while also being down home, welcoming and hospitable. Basically the brand and all who wear it encompass what it means to be a Southern Jewl. Anyways, Southern Jewlz began as a hobby for me my sophomore year of college in December of 2007 - so it's not one of those "come and go within just a few years" types of boutiques. You could say there have been a lot of tops that have come in and out of the Southern Jewlz doors. Now why am I going on and on? Well because I need you to know how big of a deal this top is to be one of my favorites of all time! So the first part I love about it is the sweetheart neckline. Plus, I have always been an off the shoulder fan! I feel very "sexy".....yes, I said it haha...whenever I have my shoulders showing off. I feel it's a great way to show a great body feature without showing too much! This top...Read More
Obsessed with Stripes and Rompers!

Obsessed with Stripes and Rompers!

Hey y'all! Ok I promise I won't always just blog my fashion fashion pieces from Southern Jewlz Boutique, but there are just too many fabulous new arrivals that I love so much right now. I'll be working on a home DIY blog over this weekend and will get back to my fitness kicks for y'all next week, too! But how stinking cute is this romper? I'm in a small and it runs a little roomy, so if you're that in between size kinda girl, you should be safe to order down. But if you're tall or long torso'ed, I would advise to not size down just because it is still a romper and length is your friend when wearing a romper. I love how it's off the shoulder, the flirty bell sleeves and the ruffles around the bottom of the shorts add a slimming touch for my thighs (my hardest area to lose). Elastic waist band because pieces that are more comfy and don't have zippers allow me to move around in. You know, like for weekend things! Hope everyone had a great first week of my blog! Thanks for following along! These shoes are by Jessica Simpson and I purchased them years ago, so no way I can link them. And...Read More
I Post to Empower Rather than to be Accepted

I Post to Empower Rather than to be Accepted

Hey y'all! So I've been noticing something lately, even within myself so I decided to share on my blog. How easy is it to get caught up to where you only post for the "likes"? I'm guilty of this sometimes, too! So many people think that the number of followers or the number of likes instantly correlates to your credibility. And I beg to differ. You see since I've launched my lifestyle blog, my instagram pictures corresponding to the posts have not all been very popular. Some have even the fewest number of likes of any of my posts. However, the feedback on my blog and the traffic on my site is growing daily. So, I know people are SEEING what I am posting. And a lot are even READING and CLICKING on what I'm sharing. So those few number of likes? Who cares! Because I choose to use social media to impact others and to share who I am. Most of my blog pictures are taken at sunset at the end of a work day by my husband. I have tried to do very little editing to keep it more raw and real for y'all. Now in these pictures, I will say my spray tan is a little on the janky...Read More
Playsuit Feels

Playsuit Feels

I am in LOVE with this playsuit! Some of you may ask: Just what is a playsuit? Well Wikipedia says it's typically a shorter version of a jumpsuit. It was created in the 1930s in New York as a stylish piece of sportswear, actually. They have gone in and out of style, but since 2006 they have been going strong. I define a playsuit as basically a romper, but with a more flow-y type bottom. This makes it great for girls with curves or those who are more self conscious of a romper around their thighs. Sometimes they even look more like a dress, but it's totally ok when they look maybe a little on the "too short" side, because there is more coverage since it technically is created like a short bottom. I am obsessed with statement floral prints and the older I get, navy becomes higher on my favorite color to wear list. It's classic, timeless and I also feel it's a more mature color to add into your wardrobe. I love how fitted the top of this playsuit is, but how comfortable I am in the bottom. My husband loved when I put this one on, so that is always a good sign! I'll link it below! The Dulcina...Read More
You Can Love Yourself without Being Self Absorbed

You Can Love Yourself without Being Self Absorbed

So I got my first really negative feedback on my blog. I was told that I'm just self absorbed and boast myself over and over for the same things and the reader commented asking me just what I had done to think that I should put myself in the inspirational category. I read all of this viewer's thoughts and even after a day to process, I kindly responded that I was appreciative of the feedback and ready to receive both the positive and negative with putting more of myself in front of others with my blog. Honestly, that comment led me to writing this blog post. It's like that quote "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade out of them". I looked up just what self absorbency was to make sure that what I thought of self absorbency was accurate. In my mind, self absorbency is a person who is only into themselves and only cares about themselves rather than anybody else. But when I looked up through a couple of other sources, I found that self absorbency is also when a person has no care about how their words or actions may affect or hurt others. When I first got the comment I was like "What if my readers really do...Read More
The Maxi Dress that has me Feeling Tropical

The Maxi Dress that has me Feeling Tropical

Hey y'all! Wow, I have had a super busy week! My Southern Jewlz creative interns started this week and they have been incredible thus far. You can meet them here! I have so many fun projects in the works - some that are close to being tied up and some that are just getting started, so I'm excited to have you following along. I am currently looking to add some new faces to the Southern Jewlz model line up, so if you or anybody you know is interested, the full details are here. Now about this dress: it truly has me feeling like it's Summer vacation time. Since it's officially vacation season, I wanted to share it with y'all! Grant and I don't have any trips lined up for a few months, so I'll just wear this dress and pretend I'm on a tropical vacation lol. However we do have a couple of birthday parties and a wedding this weekend that I'm excited about! But seriously, it is so comfortable and would be perfect for a trip to the beach. The tie detail in the back kind of allows you to make it the perfect fit and coverage up on. The elastic waist band makes it that much more easy to wear....Read More
Women Who Wear Black Lead Colorful Lives

Women Who Wear Black Lead Colorful Lives

Hi Pretties! I hope everyone has had a fabulous week. Since Monday was a Holiday, I feel I have been a straight energizer bunny the last 3 days! On Tuesday I was still interviewing new potential Southern Jewlz brand models, then Wednesday was on site with the Summer campaign shoot and not even 2 full days later the collection is almost set to launch. Whew, it all just makes me tired thinking about it! So I am looking forward to the weekend already again! I love this outfit from the shoot because I think it's the perfect mixture of classic with a pop of color. As the Neiman Marcus saying goes, "Women who wear black lead colorful lives." I also love these lounge chairs from the Stella Hotel with the black and white striped cushions! The Stella is a new hotel here in Bryan/College Station that whose ambiance is incredible! Photo credit to James Barrett Photography, makeup credit to Versy Picone, owner of Vixen Salon, lash credit to Reign Lashes and outfit credit of course to Southern Jewlz Boutique! The Older I Get the Girly-er I Get!

The Older I Get the Girly-er I Get!

Hey y'all! I am so excited about sharing this new dress available at Southern Jewlz with you. Because it is one of my favorite floral dresses we've ever had! The older I get, the girlies I seem to get. You can even ask my mom and she will verify that! I didn't start wearing makeup at a young age, but slowly over time I turned more and more into a girly girl. That trend only seems to continue as my life goes on! If it's got frills, ruffles, shimmers or is light pink - chances are I'm gonna love it! So this light pink floral and frilly little dress fits my style to a T! This was one of those dresses that I brought on because I liked it rather than knowing it automatically be a good seller. The back detail could turn some away, mainly because you can't wear a normal or strapless bra, however I'm not wearing one because the small hit me just tight enough on top where I didn't need to. I have a friend's wedding this weekend and you can bet everyone will be seeing me in this little number! Oh and when I showed my friend Emily this dress, she showed me a similar dress on...Read More
More Tropical Vibes

More Tropical Vibes

Hey y'all! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Grant and I had a birthday party and a wedding to celebrate with some of our friends, which were both super fun for us. My last post was about the floral tourist maxi dress, and I'm gonna share with y'all another outfit that has me feeling the tropical vibes! Grant and I don't have any big trips planned for a few months, but this doesn't mean I don't still have outfits ready just in case haha. We are however beginning to look at destinations for our 1st wedding anniversary trip (yes, I know we haven't even been married 4 months yet, but Grant's planning skills are rubbing off on me!) So if I were to be going on a tropical vacation, this would be another outfit of choice for me. The top is a crop top off the shoulder top that shows a little bit of my stomach. I know some of you might not tie to this outfit because it is showing more skin than usual, however this would be a beach evening kind or night out at the lake type of an outfit for me! I have worked really really hard to lose almost 40 pounds and to get in the...Read More
Let’s Talk Lashes

Let’s Talk Lashes

Hey y'all! I hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend thus far. I am getting caught up on some work on a Sunday which is unusual for me because I normally try to have Sunday off. But, I'll be at the first ever Boutique Summit the next two days at Dallas Market, so I've got to get ahead for the week since I'll be out of the office. I am excited to be the opening speaker on Monday morning and also sitting in on the social media panel on Tuesday. If you're planning on attending, I look forward to meeting you! Let's talk eyelashes on this blog post. For the past few years I have worn eyelash extensions and I loved them. I felt like during the week I could get away with a little bit of powder, touching up my eyebrows and throwing on some gloss. The eyelashes made me feel more complete and put together without any extra effort getting ready during the morning. I wore the Novalash brand, but after the wedding I decided to give my natural lashes a break. They needed to breathe and have some R&R time! But I sure did feel like I had lost a lot of color around my eyes going without them....Read More
